Oscars Challenge #12: Chicago (2002)

Amazing choreography, visuals, costumes, and music. This movie lets you experience a full-blown musical unlike any other.

Based on the 1975 musical of the same name. Chicago focuses on the 2 main characters: Roxie Hart (Renée Zellweger) and Velma Kelly (Catherine Zeta-Jones), who both were sent to prison after murdering someone. The 2 of them compete for the fame and attention of the famous lawyer (Billy Flynn) to prevent them from being sentenced to death.

The choreography and the music used in the film are outright amazing. The actors and side characters really practiced the steps and spent time and money to perfect them. Plus, the costumes used are all amazing. It jives well with the music.

The acting of the 2 main casts is something to be admired as well. You can feel the intention and emotion through each script they deliver.

However, the story is quite bland in my opinion. I was waiting for something like a nice twist in the movie but it didn't happen. Nevertheless, it is still a very enjoyable film.

I would still recommend this film to someone who wants to watch or learn more about musicals.
