BlacKkKlansman (2018) Movie Review

There are films you watch because it brings entertainment and others because it provides valuable information that adds to your knowledge.

BlacKkKlansman provides entertainment with on-point comedy and fascination while delivering the needed message for everyone.

Plot Overview

BlacKkKlansman is a biographical film about Ron Stalworth. He is hired as the first black cop in the Colorado Springs Police Department. He was first assigned to work in the records room but gets tired of the harassment of other police officers and applies to be an undercover officer. His first assignment is to infiltrate and gather information on a local rally led by national civil rights leader and speaker Kwame Ture. He meets Patrice Dumas, president of the Black Student Union. After the event, Ture, Patrice, and their friends were harassed by one of Stalworth's racist colleagues.

After his initial success, Ron Stalworth is assigned to the intelligence division. After reading about a local Ku Klux Klan division in the newspaper, he called them while posing as white. He spoke with the branch president, Walter Breachway, and mistakenly realized that he used his real name and must meet other Klan members. He seeks help from his Jewish colleague, Flip Zimmerman, to impersonate him and attend meetups. Under the guise of Stalworth, Zimmerman successfully meets the other Klan members. He meets Breachway, the president, Felix Kendrickson, his wife Connie, and Ivanhoe, who always says they will make a terrorist attack. At first, he doesn't get along with the other members, especially Felix, who is wary and doubtful of his identity, but with the help of Breachway's approval, he becomes one of their trusted members.

Meanwhile, Ron Stalworth tries to expedite his membership and has frequent conversations with Grand Wizard David Duke. Stalworth establishes close ties with the Ku Klux Klan on the phone, while Zimmerman tries to solidify his during meetings. However, they soon begin to learn about the dark plans that Klan has to bomb the rally conducted by the Black Union.

Review

It's not hard to appreciate this incredible Spike Lee movie. The way the plot is structured as the story gets tense as it progresses. It has a shocking, hair-raising ending that will leave your jaws wide open. I have never watched a film with so many messages, yet it keeps me entertained. If you consider that the events that happened in real life are mindblowing.

This film could not be accomplished without the talents of John David Washington, Adam Driver, Laura Harrier, and many more. Their incredible acting skills and performances have adapted well to their roles.

I cannot express how much I love this film. It's humorous, action-packed, tension-filled, and provides me with an eye-opening experience. The ending's transition towards some white supremacist rallies and the hit-and-run event during the Black Lives Matter march. For someone like me who has never experienced racism and stuff, it was a fantastic experience watching it here in the film.

There's also a short sequence in the movie where the Ku Klux Klan members watch The Birth Of A Nation, and we're shown clips of it.
